My kids are obsessed with Schlotts Knots from the Dr. Seuss Cookbook.
Aside from the fact that it is just hilarious to hear a 2 year old say "Schlotts Knots," it is actually a fun activity for the little ones.
Here is our adaptation:
1 can of Pilsbury bread sticks. Yes I know you can make your own dough, but really - the consistency of the playdoughy Pilsbury brand is perfect for little hands.
1/4 stick melted butter or margerine for brushing on the knots just before baking.
1 nonstick baking sheet
A good clean play surface (a splat mat on the floor, a kids table, another large baking sheet - wax paper even might work)
Directions: Help the little ones with rolling out the dough w/ your hands in to long ropes that can be knotted and twisted. Let them be creative -- some of ours look like piles of dog turds when they are done. Appetizing.
Topping Options:
Brush with butter and add ...
chopped pecans, cinnamon and sugar
sea salt
parmesan cheese
you get the idea
Bake at 375 for 12-13 minutes
