[JessFinds] To share or not to share

We live in a funky house. It has a bunch of pros (tons of space) and a bunch of cons (odd bedrooms and quirky bathrooms). It is a 1950's cape with two major additions blown out, one in the 80's and one in the 90's.

When we bought this house almost 2 years ago, it was with the idea that our girls would eventually share a room. Crab has a good sized bedroom. Gonzo sleeps in a nursery that we rigged up out of a large walk-in closet in our bedroom. It is a cool big closet - has a large window and a light fixture. Not your Harry Potter under-the stairs type of scene. No need to call social services.

So the time has come to consider the merge. Gonzo is close to climbing out of her crib, but has not done so - intentionally -as of yet. She did manage to launch out of her crib a few months back and it was a spectacular face-plant. Her crib will convert to a toddler bed and then a larger bed when the time comes. I am in no rush. We moved Crab to a "big girl" bed when she was 18 months old and she ended up sleeping on the floor in protest for six months. Hee. She hated that toddler bed!

Crab's room has functioned as both a bedroom and a playroom. Moving the girls in together means that some of the play space will be sacrificed. And while we have two large living rooms, neither one is set up as a playroom.

We cleaned out Crab's room today. Sorted out the toys. Etc. This would be a great time to merge the tribes.

Crab still has night terrors from time to time (approx 2x per week now). She also likes to go to bed with blinding lights on. We turn them off after she falls asleep. Gonzo sleeps in the dark.

Is this a bad idea? Anyone else share a room as a kid and have thoughts on it? Are we asking for a bigger problem? Gonzo seems perfectly happy in her closet. Crab likes the idea of her sister moving in. For now.
